How to take care your new tattoo?
By Baan Khagee Tattoo Chiang Mai, Thailand
After your tattoo is completed, we will apply a special tattoo film, that is waterproof and breathable, in order to keep your tattoo well-protected. It also makes your trip easier when you're traveling 😉
First 24 hours
Tattoo film 101
Leave the film on for around 24 hours while skin is still producing fluid
Showering with the film on is fine but do not soak the tattoo area in water
It's normal to see a bit of ink/blood underneath the film, however you can take the film off before 24 hours if it soaks up with too much fluid
If you sweat a lot underneath the film, it's better to take it off and leave it open
If you see some redness around OR feel irritated/uncomfortable from the film, you can also gently take it off before 24 hours. That's fine 👌
After 24 hours
(After taking off the film)
Tip: using warm water will help the tattoo film come off more easily (in case the tattoo film still sticks quite firmly)
💙 Wash your tattoo with regular water. Don't wash it with neither soap nor hot water until it's completely healed. While you're washing, gently removing oozing as clean as you can, then gently pat dry. If possible, try to wash your tattoo twice a day in the first couple of days.
After a couple of days
Your new tattoo will be getting dry and probably start to peel.
💙 Continue washing but be really gentle. Be careful and try not to tear away the old skin
💙 Keep it moisturized but not OVER moisturized
After you see your tattoo starts to get dry, you can apply some moisturizing cream that you've used before OR maybe go for a fragrance free moisturizing cream for sensitive skin.
Tip: wait until your washed tattoo is completely dry before applying your moisturizing cream
Things to avoid while your tattoo is healing
🚫 Avoid exposing it directly to sunlight. If you have to be out to the sun, apply some sunscreen slightly
🚫 Avoid swimming, sweaty exercise or stretch your skin which might damage your tattoo - keep it dry and clean
🚫 Don't scratch or pick up the healing skin
